With the lights out and the beats booming, forty-seven climbers attacked twenty fresh boulder problems with force and enthusiasm, leaving no problem unclimbed. Over the span of two hours, climbers pushed themselves and each other to earn as many points as possible in The Crag’s Fifth Annual Back to School Bash.
The format of this year’s Back to School Bash was different than most, with each problem having a point value of 10,000 points, divided among all the climbers to successfully complete a problem. The format pushed climbers to attempt problems they normally wouldn’t, both to earn points for themselves and take points from their competition. After the two hour competition, the top three women and top five men advanced to finals for a shot at $150.
The women’s finals ultimately proved too difficult, with none of the three competitors completing any of the problems, despite the encouragement of the crowd. The men’s finals would shake out differently, with two of the three problems being sent by multiple competitors.
Thanks to all our competitors and spectators for making the Fifth Annual Back to School Bash a success! We look forward to seeing everyone at our ABS 16 Local on October 18!
