Meet our new Head Setter, Dylan Garey!  Dylan i Meet our new Head Setter, Dylan Garey!  

Dylan is originally from Long Island, New York and so far, he has really enjoyed the inclusive and friendly environment the Crag offers which in his own words is "unmatched" (we agree!) When we asked him what he is excited about bringing into the community, he said, "I'm the most excited to spend time getting creative with the rest of the setting team. We'll be up to all sorts of fun stuff in the future and doing our best to make big ideas a reality."  

A random fun fact about Dylan is that before he climbed he was a competitive soccer goalkeeper!

If you’ve been wanting to try the Moon Board but have felt intimidated then we have some tips for you to get started! The @moonclimbing Board is a great training tool to develop contact strength, power, and it can even help with memorizing beta and reading routes.

- Get comfortable on our Yellow tags in the gym before trying the Moon Board.  
-Don’t be discouraged by falling a lot on "easy" grades, it’s a very specific style of climbing!
-Take lots of long rests in between tries. We recommend 3-7 minutes when first starting out.
-Warm up on easier routes in the gym before each session.
-Use it for short sessions when you start out.

Summer Camp is around the corner! Our first sessio Summer Camp is around the corner! Our first session starts in June and spots are filling up for both @cragfranklin and @cragnashville so we added a few more spots. Sign your kiddo up for a week of learning knots, tie dye, games, making new friends, and of course LOTS of climbing!
Climbers! After a session, try these poses with Em Climbers! After a session, try these poses with Em for more open hips! 

🦎 Lizard Lunge 

Set your front foot a little wider than hip-width distance apart. Place both hands on the inside of your front foot. Option to stay up on your hands or lower onto your forearms. Stay for 5-10 breaths. *Option to twist and reach for your back foot for an additional calf stretch.  

  

🐦 Pigeon Pose 

A crowd favorite for good reason! Bring your knee to the front of your mat and work toward bringing your shin to be more parallel with the front of your mat. Lay forward over your front leg. Stay for 5-10 breaths. 

  

🐕 Three Legged Down Dog 

For a final stretch, bring one leg high into the air, bend your lifted knee, and think about lifing your hip up towards the ceiling. Hold for 3-5 breaths. 

  

Finish seated and take 10-20 breaths to reflect on how your body feels.

We have partnered up with the @nowatnpl to encourage participating in the Summer Reading Challenge. 📚

From May-August you can join thousands of Nashvillians as you read (or listen to audiobooks) and earn prizes including passes to our gym! Last year we had 399 passes redeemed, let’s see if we can do more this summer! 📖📚

For International Women’s Day, we’re showing o For International Women’s Day, we’re showing off some of our favorite women in climbing history. 

🔻 Join us in tagging your favorite women and the women who support you in the comments below and tag us in Stories to have it reposted.

These historical women aren’t just crushers, they broke barriers, expectations, and fought for women’s rights and equality along the way.

👑Sophia Danenberg, first Black Woman to summit Everest in 2006. She carried her own gear, unguided to the top. She is currently an activist and an environmentalist. @sophiaclimbs

👑 Lynn Hill was the first PERSON, not just woman, to free climb The Nose on El Cap in Yosemite in 1993. At 5’2” she is still a powerful climber and has never let her height or gender slow her down. @_linacolina_

👑 Annie Peck was an 1800s mountaineer, suffragette, and an original founder of @americanalpine . One of her most notable moments was when she summitted one of the 21,083-foot peaks Coropuna in Peru and placed a "Votes for Women" banner at the summit at the age of 61. 

👑 Ashima Shiraishi was barely a "woman" when she sent "Horizon" in Mount Hiei, Japan  and became the first female to climb V15 at 14 years old. She is still an elite level competitive climber. @ashimashiraishi

Tonight we will be hosting a USAC Collegiate Comp Tonight we will be hosting a USAC Collegiate Comp from 6-9 pm. Come and cheer on these college age competitors and then try the climbs afterwards! 

The north wall and island will be closed for the comp, so be sure to get first dibs tomorrow morning for the 20 new competition problems put up by our setting team!
