In this edition of our ever-so-popular Around the Crag series, we cover our main man, TK St. Vincent. I’ve known this Kentuckian-Portlander for about 2 years now, and I can say without a doubt that this guy is always making sure our, no, YOUR gym, is keeping moving, stable, and constantly improving it. Now, without further ado, I give you the man that claims to be best friends with Elijah Wood (the dog not the hobbit). – Matt Loshin
1. Where are you from?
The Commonwealth of Kentucky, Henderson County, City of Henderson, Home of the Colonels
2. How long have you been climbing?
My friend’s really cool older brother was nice enough to take us for the first time when I was 15. Haven’t given it up since.
3. What do you love most about rock climbing?
Two reasons: First, climbing is sort of like a puzzle. You have to step back, turn off everything else in your head, and put it together to find success. Second, at no point can anyone take a look around and say, “Yep. I’ve done all the rock climbing.” There is always something tougher and meaner for me to work on.
4. Other than climbing, what are your hobbies and interests?
I ride and work on bicycles whenever I can. I would be a bad climber/cyclist if I didn’t try to taste every beer put out into the world. You can never have enough beer. I’ve pulled together quite the comic book collection over the years, Daredevil is still my favorite. I have serious opinions about which punk/ska/metal band you should check out. I have the toughest Chihuahua/Pomeranian on the planet: Elijah Wood, and can’t get enough time with him. Also, anyone will tell you I have a minor addiction to the Portland Timbers Football Club. RCTID.
5. What are your three favorite movies.
In no particular order: High Fidelity, Fifth Element, All of the Lethal Weapons (I watch them like they’re one movie)
6. Do you play any musical instruments?
Guitar, bass, banjo, and mandolin. I played accordion and piano when I was younger, but haven’t in years.
7. What’s your favorite place to climb?
I’ve climbed in a lot of great places across the country, but my favorite climbing memories are the days my old climbing partner and I would sneak in a couple hours at King’s Bluff before we had to be at work. That is still some of the most fun I ever had.
8. Someone just offered to pay for your dream vacation. You have 10 days…where do you go and what do you do?
I would most likely throw my little brother, Weasel, into the passenger seat of my Kia and drive north. I have no idea where we would go, but we both love cold weather and our road trips are like an adventure comedy.
9. Are you on instagram, twitter, etc.? If so, how can people find you?
You can find the adventures of Elijah Wood and myself on Instagram/Twitter @tksaintv
