In the spirit of starting up our new Family League In the spirit of starting up our new Family League, we reached out to the Barmer family to see if they could share their story. They were enthusiastic and we absolutely loved what they had to say, and love the way they have become part of the community. ❣️

Part 1:
"Our family got into climbing when my son, Jude, took an interest around six years old. His first experience climbing came at a Waldorf Fair in Nashville where he climbed a mobile auto-belay high wall. As he slowly descended from about halfway up, he asked. “Can I do that again and again?” with a sparkle in his eyes. After that, we would climb as often as possible at the original Crag Franklin location and he would enjoy an afternoon clipped into the auto-belays.
Not to be outdone by her older brother, my daughter, Rayne, began climbing occasionally when she turned six as well. A couple years later, Jude and Rayne joined the Crag’s Homeschool Climbing Group and soon we were climbing several times a month. Both my kids had a spark when they climbed and were motivated by all they were learning and the tangible ways they were advancing. This continues to drive them now as teen and pre-teen climbers.
After becoming certified to belay and watching my kids enjoy climbing for seven years, I decided to begin climbing regularly, too. Always a lover of movement and fitness, climbing gave me a new outlet and a fresh challenge. It also gave me bonus cool mom status with my kids and a deeper connection as we climbed together each week.
